Bill Affecting Large-Scale Subcontracts Introduced

Representative Stephen Lynch (D-MA) has introduced H.R. 4236, a bill that would require the Postal Service to bargain with the Union before it signs
certain contracts with private companies. Such contracts also would be subject to arbitration if management and union representatives could not reach agreement.

Contract Increase Set for February 16, 2008

The Mail Handlers Update: January 2008 NEW WAGE SCALES EFFECTIVE ON FEBRUARY 16, 2008 All mail handlers will receive a general wage increase of 0.6% effective on February 16, 2008. Click the link at the right for the charts. As noted, this increase will be implemented effective February 16, 2008, and will be reflected in paychecks on March 7, 2008.

NPMHU Files National Grievance Over USPS Decision to Cease Weighing Mail

The NPMHU National Office has filed a national level grievance following the USPS's unilateral moves to cease weighing mail. This directly effects mail handlers who hold bids that include weighing duties. Management did not follow proper notification procedures. March 2008 COLA Announced as $479 Annually

The USPS has confirmed that the upcoming COLA will be $479 annually. This amount equals $.23 per hour to be added to all mail handler base wages. The COLA is effective on March 15, 2008 and will be reflected in the April 4, 2008 pay check.We will be posting an updated Mail Handler pay scale shortly to incorporate this COLA adjustment
