What is an OWCP Schedule Award?

Excerpt:

The USPS does not publicize these awards, but many employees could benefit from them.

Many mail handlers have been injured on the job and have lasting weakness or
pain in a limb. No one from the USPS will tell them that they can file
for a "Schedule Award" and receive money for the loss of use of a part
of their body.

One example would be an employee who has carpal tunnel syndrome and has
surgery. Following surgery, the employee is basically pain free, but
they have lost some of the range of motion in their hand. If the
employee had an accepted OWCP claim and OWCP paid for their surgery,
they can file for a scheduled award.

Your doctor must agree that you have reached maximum recovery to be eligible
for this award. They must also be able to specify a part of your body
that has diminished ability. For instance, a back injury may not
qualify unless you have reduced use of your legs as a result.

In order to begin the process, you must complete CA-7 and indicate that
you are asking for a schedule award. You must have your OWCP case
number and know the date of your original injury. If you need
assistance, see a Union representative.
